About the role
Create/Change is looking to build a pool of experienced Content Designers for future contractor opportunities.
We are looking for experienced practitioners with typically 3+ years of experience. You’ll be responsible for creating, evaluating and refining the content end-to-end, ensuring it meets user needs and delivers against business/policy objectives.
We typically work in agile, multidisciplinary teams. We value people skills highly. You will need to be generous, insightful, empathetic and have a commitment to creating capability for our clients.
Typical project responsibilities
- Create, evaluate and review content, using evidence, data and research to inform decisions throughout all stages of the project
- Use and contribute to style guides and style patterns
- Ensure content is accessible and inclusive for users
- Work in accordance with the service standard and service manual
- Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including building relationships with stakeholders, and communicating content decisions effectively
- Champion user-centred design and ensure user needs stay at the heart of content decisions while meeting business/policy requirements
What we're looking for
If you don’t see yourself exactly in this description, don’t let that put you off! We’re interested in transferable skills and people who’ve gained their experience in different ways.
Skills
- Typically 3+ years experience as a Content Designer in public services (or transferrable skills from another sector)
- Skilled at simplifying complex ideas and tailoring content to different audiences
- Flexibility to iterate content based on emerging user research and analytics
- Experience and understanding of designing and championing accessible, inclusive content
- Experience of design software (e.g. Figma, Sketch or the GOV.UK prototyping kit)
Experience
You will be able to show case studies with large organisations or programmes where you led a strand of the delivery. We want to see evidence of:
- Working with policy or operational teams in large organisations
- Working as part of an agile, multidisciplinary team
- Working with stakeholders in complex operating environments
Mindset
- Curious - interested in people, organisations and change
- Resilient - aware that real change is uphill work and can take a long time
- Strategic - can look beyond tactical solutions to see opportunities for system change
- Strong ideas, loosely held - able to chase a hypothesis with real conviction but also pivot quickly if the evidence is pointing a different direction.
About Create/Change
Create/Change works with government and other large organisations to design new products, services & policy.
Last year we were named as one of the 50 fastest-growing GovTech companies in the UK but we’re still small and independent, with the freedom to work on projects that fit with our values.
The kind of work we’re already winning
// Incentivising sustainable farming
Working with Defra’s policy teams farmers and land managers, we led a Discovery and Alpha on the Sustainable Farming Incentive, exploring how government can incentivise the farming industry to adopt sustainable practices and reduce its reliance on subsidies.
// Digital learning for low-skilled adults
We led a partnership with DfE and Open University to explore the best technologies for teaching low-skilled, low confidence adults. Working with over 200 users, we researched adaptive learning, curriculum content and tutor support through digital prototypes.
// AI-driven search for Government
The volume of unstructured information held by government is vast: imagine a stack of paper 20,000 miles high in the centre of Whitehall. Working with Cabinet Office we’ve prototyped machine learning and natural language processing tools to make the knowledge in these documents transparent and accessible.
Equal Opportunities
Create/Change is committed to eliminating discrimination and encouraging diversity and equity amongst our team. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, colour, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.
